Surprise: More People on Bikes in SF

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority recently released its 2010 report on bicycle ridership in San Francisco (The City of San Francisco 2010 Bicycle Count Report). I read an item about it Friday in the Chronicle and was interested enough to seek out the complete document. The report tabulates bicycle use by observation at a number of locations throughout the city. I used their numbers to create the following infographic:

According to the report, the intersection of 11th and Market Street has the most bicycle traffic on a day to day basis — a 50% increase since 2006. In addition, the report shows a 28% increase in people commuting to work by bicycle between 2006 and 2009. For this year, 72% of all riders are male and 28% are female, a 3% increase from 2006 when females accounted for 25% of all bicycle riders in San Francisco.
