Fleet Week is that time of year when U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard dock in major cities and enjoy our sights. The late Sen. Dianne Feinstein in 1981 began it in San Francisco with air shows, a parade of ships, and neighborhood parties.

But honestly, we mostly know Fleet Week for “OMG that jet is so loud!” when a flight formation passes over many of San Francisco’s sleepy and bustling neighborhoods.

This year’s Fleet Week came accompanied with San Franciscans’ routine complaining about military spending and noise. While we totally agree the noise is super extra, the annual event brought us a nice boost in tourism and of course some stunning photos. Here are some of our favorites that photographers shared with us.
